Information for clients outside the E.U.

Important Information for samples being sent from overseas (outside the E.U.) to the United Kingdom.

Under U.K. Law a licence for importation of animal products is required, It stipulates is that all material should be completely fixed on arrival. Unfixed fluids and unfixed tissue or swabs are not allowable under our law.

Below is a copy of our licence to import and a print out of this should be sent with every sample, so that should there be any problem they can contact us quickly. Below is also a sheet with a declaration that all material has been fixed should also be included. Obviously tissue is fixed in formalin. Slides and smears that are sent to us should be put into alcohol for a few minutes for fixation. Please try to ensure that cytology slides, whether or not submitted together with formalin-fixed specimens , are packaged in an airtight fashion to prevent formalin exposure to cytology slides. This significantly reduces the diagnostic usefulness of FNABs.
